Echo

The command line is a pleasantly quiet place. Honestly, this was the first appeal of it to me... that I could escape the noise of modern tech while still using my computer.

We can play with this quietness with the command echo

In your terminal type:
$: echo "hardcooooore"

This should return:
"hardcooooore"

Echo echoes. We are in a place so massive and quiet we can hear(= read) our own voice.

description: repeats back what you gave it.
likes: text, in all its forms
gives: that same text

Not to be confused with its more forceful sibling > which will overwrite the file with your words.⌧
I never get over this, that the command line is words charged with words, energy paused in place as a name. This feeling gets lost in the ui, where all files have the look of computer copy paper. When it’s just text, I find it overwhelmingly beautiful. That’s all, a lil bit of author earnestness!⌧
